Worldly Desires & Materialistic Things. 3 Things to Implement to Not Be Conformed by This World

In today's episode, I'm going to be going over not being conformed by this world. This world is full of chaos, destruction, lies, and deception, and it can get easy to get caught up in worldly desires and materialistic things. As Christians, we have to stand firm in our faith and not be conformed to this world. I pair this with prayer, scripture, and 3 things to implement

First I want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to you Lord. I pray that for each person listening to this, whatever they're supposed to receive from this episode that they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Now let's go into some scripture:

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." -Romans 12:2

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." -1 John 2:15

"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." -Colossians 3:2

"As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance." -1 Peter 1:14

So in all of these verses we see that we can not be conformed by this world, we shouldn't set our minds to earthly things, or have love for this world, but we should set our minds on heavenly things and seek the kingdom of God. We also can't conform to the evil desires we had before we were saved when we lived in ignorance and when we didn't know the difference that those desires were evil.

We, as humans, have a sinful nature, but when we're saved we have the fruit of the Spirit within us. It's important for us to ask God to reveal the fruit of the Spirit in our hearts and let the Holy Spirit guide us.

This world is and always has been since the beginning, after Adam and Eve and everything that happened with that, the world has been full of sin, chaos, and destruction and there are so many things that are being normalized that are not okay. I mean all you have to do is turn on the tv and you can see all of the things,

you can see the different idols that we have in this world, and whenever we have discernment we can clearly see. Now, whenever I turn on the tv it's crazy how my eyes are opened to things that they weren't open to before, and that's why I try to be very careful of what I watch and what I allow myself to focus my attention on. My mind soaks everything up like a sponge and I get emotional connections to things that I focus my attention on and I don't even realize it usually until after the fact how certain shows or different things will affect me. So that's why it's super important,

and if you're anything like me or also if you just have discernment, you will be able to see the things that are not okay and you just have to make sure you stand firm in your faith and not allow yourself to get distracted by unnecessary, worldly things, the desires of this world, materialistic things, and all of that.

This world is our temporary home and we have to set our minds on Jesus and heavenly things, not on earthly things. When we are saved, our true home is in heaven with Jesus Christ and God the Father, and we're dead in our sins and alive in Christ.

Here are 3 things to implement to not be conformed by this world:

1. Study the Bible

- When we study the Bible we can learn what is right and wrong, we can learn the truth of God's words, and we can get knowledge and understanding and be able to discern the truth so we won't be conformed by this world, worldly desires, and materialistic things.

- Whenever I study the Bible I always pray first and ask God for knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that I'm reading and wisdom to implement in my daily life.

- I also pray that the Holy Spirit shows me the truth, helps me to see the truth,

know the truth, discern the truth, and live by the truth.

- Also, a lot of the times whenever I study the Bible I just pray and ask God to direct me to whatever he wants me to read and to direct my fingers and I'll just scroll through and whatever I land on, that's what I'll read.

- So if you're having trouble figuring out what you want to read in the Bible or what you want to study, you may want to do that.

- Every time I do that I get directed to the exact verses that coincide with exactly what I need at that moment. Most of the time I don't even know what it is that I need until I get directed to those verses and it's just always perfect and I always get something out of it.

- It's so important to study the Bible and really just learn the teachings of Jesus Christ, the truth of God's words, discern the truth, and know what is right and wrong based on what the Lord tells us and not what the world tells us. The world normalizes things that are not okay to the Lord.

2. Let the Holy Spirit guide you

- Whenever we are saved we have the Holy Spirit within us and the Holy Spirit will show us the truth, help us to discern that truth, and help us to not do things that will give in to our worldly desires.

- Have you ever started to do something that you know is not okay and you get this thought in your head like "No, I shouldn't do that, that's not what I'm supposed to do"?

You have to listen to that thought because that's the Holy Spirit trying to guide you and direct you to make sure that you don't make mistakes and be conformed to this world.

- When we let the Holy Spirit guide us we will be focused on heavenly things, spreading the gospel, studying our Bible, and doing all of these things to have a relationship with Christ and be fully submitted to the will of God the Father.

- So it's very important for us to ask God to reveal the fruit of the Spirit in our hearts and let the Holy Spirit guide us, always.

3. Stay in constant prayer

- I know I said this last week as one of my things to implement and I'll probably say it again in other episodes because being in constant prayer is so very important and it's crucial when having a relationship with Christ, when focusing on heavenly things, and when seeking Christ first.

- Prayer is just a very crucial part of life as a Christian.

- We need to stay in constant prayer every single day and ask the Lord for guidance, discernment, knowledge, understanding, and also take uninterrupted time to be still and listen to what the Lord is telling us.

- Whenever we're constantly praying to the Lord and we're asking the Lord to guide us, and before we make any decisions we're asking the Lord for clarity on exactly what it is that we're supposed to do, it's going to make us a whole lot less likely to be able to conform to this world because we're constantly seeking the Lord first and prioritizing the Lord over our worldly desires and materialistic things.

So I hope this episode helped you guys to know not to be conformed by this world and to make sure that you're spending time studying the Bible, letting the Holy Spirit guide you, and being in constant prayer.

I love you guys so much.

Never forget to choose faith over fear.
