I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we're reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Lord, I pray that you help us to see the truth, know the truth, discern the truth, and live by the truth. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Luke Chapter 6 Part 2:
27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32 "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." -Luke 6:27-36
So Jesus teaches us to love our enemies, do good to those who hate us, and to give graciously. Our heavenly Father is so merciful, gracious, loving, and he's kind to wicked and ungrateful people. We have to be merciful just like our heavenly Father is. No one is better than the other person. We're all sinners, we're all humans, and we all have to have Jesus in our lives. We all need a savior. We all need Jesus Christ to make it into heaven and to forgive us of our sins. We shouldn't only love the people that love us, or be kind to the people that are kind to us, or give to people that we will give back to us, because what good does that do? If we're seeking to be righteous, we're following Jesus, we're seeking to be like him, and we're following his commands, we have to love others, do good to them, and give to them without expecting anything back in return. Jesus died on the cross to forgive us of our sins. We were sinners, we didn't deserve anything from him, he didn't owe us anything, but he gave up his life and rose three days later so that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life in heaven with Him and God the Father.
Who are we to think that we deserve anything? Why should we only love others if they love us? Or give to others if they're going to give back to us or pay us in full? Who are we to think like that, that we deserve anything? We have to humble ourselves, give cheerfully, and love everyone just as the Father, who loves us. Whenever we do those things then our reward will be great and we'll be sons and daughters of the Most High (and that is the greatest reward of all). So we have to stop worrying about what other people are going to do for us, or if other people care about us or do good to us, or if they're going to give us back what we've given them, we have to focus on humbling ourselves and loving others, regardless. We have to do good to others regardless, and give to others regardless, no matter what they do for us. We have to just humble ourselves, and serve and love others just like Jesus teaches us to do.

37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
39 He also told them this parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
41 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." -Luke 6:37-42
We can get so consumed by what others are doing wrong and forget about our own mistakes. Sometimes we focus so much on trying to help others with their issues and their problems to avoid fixing our issues and our problems. No one is perfect except for God and Jesus, and Jesus didn't come to condemn or judge the world, but to save it. So who are we to judge? We can't help anyone do better until we face our own demons, repent, and change our ways, and that's what this teaching of Jesus is saying here.
How are we supposed to help our brother that has a speck in their eye if we can't even see the plank that's in our eye? If we fail to repent, and if we fail to try and fix ourselves and the things that we've done wrong, then how are we going to help other people be able to better themselves and fix their mistakes? We can't. We have to first look inside and become the person that we need to be to fulfill the calling that God has placed in our hearts and the purpose that God has for us. Then we can try to help others and gently instruct others based on what we've learned from Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
If we try to help others and lead them without first helping ourselves and discerning the truth, then we're only going to lead them astray and do more harm than good. Also, we shouldn't ever look down on someone else because they are at a different place than we are at. Once we are able to discern the truth, help ourselves, and have knowledge and understanding from God, then we can gently instruct others to also be able to discern the truth and help themselves by gaining the knowledge and understanding from God.
43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks."
Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. So in these verses here Jesus is using the example of trees as people. Not every tree is the same just like not every person is the same. Good people that believe in Jesus Christ, follow him, obey his commands and teachings, are saved by Jesus Christ have the fruit of the spirit. We are all sinners and we are only made good by Jesus Christ whenever he saves us and we have the Holy Spirit within us. Evil people that don't accept Jesus, that don't have the Holy Spirit, and follow the evil inclinations their hearts have the sinful nature. So evil things are stored up in their heart and the sinful nature comes out. Those people that speak evil things, deceit, and lies don't have Jesus in them because whatever is in their hearts their mouth speaks. Whenever we do have Jesus, we follow him, and we're saved, then we're going to speak kindly, love and serve others, and humble ourselves just like Jesus does.
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
Alright, so those are all the verses of part 2 of chapter 6 of the book of Luke but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. In verse 46, these people call Jesus Lord and they want to learn from him, but they don't implement his teachings. It's one thing to learn from Jesus, but it's a completely other thing to actually implement his teachings and do what he says. In verses 47-48, Jesus Christ is our firm foundation, so when we take his words and put them into practice then nothing can shake us. The floods of this world, hardships, temptation, none of that will shake us and we will be able to stand firm in our faith because our life is built on Jesus. Jesus gives us everything that we need to stand firm in our faith, be strong, stand up under temptation, and deal with all the floods and the crazy things of this world. In verse 49, when we don't implement the teachings of Jesus in our daily lives then our life will feel like it's crumbling down, and when the floods and hardships of life come they will take us down because we didn't build our lives on Jesus.
I actually went into all of this about building a firm foundation on Jesus in episode 99 if you want to go check that out. But in these verses here, Jesus is saying that we can't only listen to the words of Jesus Christ or see all of his teachings in the Bible, but we have to actually implement those teachings in our daily life and follow him, pray to him, worship him, obey his commands, learn from him, take his practices and implement them in our daily life and build our lives on Jesus. He is our rock, he is our firm foundation, and he should be at the center of our lives through every aspect.
Here are 3 takeaways to write down:
1. We have to love everyone just as Jesus loves us
2. We have no authority to judge anyone
3. Jesus Christ is our firm foundation
