I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we're reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Lord, please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to you Lord. I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Luke Chapter 5 Part 2:
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. So in verse 12, the leper knew that Jesus could heal him, he had no doubt about that, the question was if Jesus was willing to heal him. In verse 13, Jesus touched the man, and with two simple words, "Be clean," immediately this man was healed. In verse 14, where it says to "offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing," it talks about cleansing from infectious skin diseases in Leviticus chapter 14 if you guys want to check that out to see the offering for the cleansing of leprosy. Also in verse 14, he didn't want the man to tell anyone because he wanted to calm down the excitement of the crowd and it wasn't time yet for the revelation of the Christ to come. But we see in verse 15, that the news about him spread all the more and there were crowds of people that came to listen to him teach and to be healed by him. In verse 16, Jesus needed time to be alone with God the Father. It's so important for us to also have that alone time to pray and have uninterrupted time with God the Father. It's important for us to follow Jesus and to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, but also to have that uninterrupted quiet time to pray and to listen to what God is telling us to do.

17 One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick. 18 Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” He said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
Alright, so those are all the verses that I am going to be reading in part 2 of chapter 5 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss all of these verses with you guys here. So in verse 17, these religious leaders were watching Jesus teach. In verses 18-20, the crowd was so large and there were so many people that these people that were trying to carry their paralytic friend on a mat were not able to get through the crowd. So they went up on the roof and made a hole in the roof through the tiles and lowered their friend in front of Jesus. In verse 20, Jesus knew that the real need of the man was for his sins to be forgiven. These men had tried so hard to get their friend to be healed from being paralyzed, but Jesus saw the real need was forgiveness of his sins, and he saw the faith that his friends had.
In verse 21, the religious leaders thought that he was speaking blasphemy because only God could forgive sins and they couldn't see that Jesus was God the Son. It's the Holy Trinity; God the Father (in heaven,) God the Son (which was walking on the earth at the time,) and God the Holy Spirit (which is within us once were saved and we ask Jesus to come into our hearts). Since Jesus is God the Son, he has the authority to forgive sins. In verses 22-25, Jesus knew what these religious leaders were thinking in their hearts. So he asked which was easier, because for Jesus, God the Son, both were easy, to either tell the man to get up and walk or to forgive him of his sins, but for man those things were impossible. But he showed them by telling this man his sins were forgiven that the Son of Man, Jesus Christ, had the authority to forgive sins. Then he told the paralyzed man to get up and take his mat and walk, and immediately he stood up and took his mat and started walking home praising God. In verse 26, everyone that saw this was amazed and they praised God. Not only was this man's sins forgiven but he also was healed of being paralyzed and he got up and started walking.
Here are 3 takeaways to write down:
1. Jesus needed quiet time to pray to God the Father
- This shows the importance of us also needing that quiet time to pray to God the Father, and having time to not only pray but listen to what God the Father is telling us.
2. Jesus, the Son of God, has the authority to forgive us of our sins
3. Jesus was fully man and fully God
