First I want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our hearts, and our minds to you Lord. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we're reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Lord, I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and they implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Luke Chapter 4 Part 3:
31 Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath began to teach the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his message had authority.
33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
35 “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!” 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.
Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. In verse 33 where it says "an evil spirit," evil is also unclean. So this man was possessed by an evil unclean spirit and that spirit knew that Jesus was the Christ and he was the Son of God. The spirit asked if Jesus came to destroy them. The demonic world had control over these people during that time and that spirit knew that Jesus had the power to destroy the control of the demonic world by his love and him being crucified and giving anyone who asks eternal life in heaven. We are dead in our sins and alive in Jesus and with his sacrifice, he washes us whiter than snow and purifies us from all of our sins. Whenever we follow Jesus, we are saved, and we have the Holy Spirit within us we no longer have that sinful nature. We can't be controlled by the evil inclinations of our hearts or by evil spirits if we are following Jesus and we are staying in relationship with him. In verse 35, this shows that Jesus has power and authority over the evil spirits. In verses 36-37, these people were amazed and they didn't understand how Jesus had this power and authority, and the word about him spread around.

38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. 39 So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.
40 When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. 41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.
42 At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” 44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
Alright, so those are all the verses of part 3 of chapter 4 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss all of these verses with you guys here. So in verse 39, Jesus performed this miraculous sign of rebuking the fever of Simon's mother in law and immediately she was better and she got up and began serving them. In verse 40, this shows that Jesus was a healer of many. Many people came to him and brought people to him that various kinds of diseases and sicknesses and he healed them all. In verse 41, he rebuked these evil spirits because he didn't want people to rely on their testimony. These evil spirits knew that he was the Christ, so he rebuked them and didn't let them speak. In verse 42, Jesus went to a place to be alone. He was fully man and he was fully God and he needed time to rest and be alone and spend time with God the Father. But the people that were looking for him came and found him and asked him not to leave them. They didn't want him to leave because he was performing all these miraculous signs, healing people, and teaching them with such grace and authority. In verse 43, Jesus wasn't sent to just one place or to save one specific type of people, He was sent to save the world and forgive every one that believes in him of their sins. So he couldn't just stay in one place, he had to go wherever God the Father sent him and preach the good news of the kingdom of God to other towns than just the town that he was in.
Here are 3 takeaways to write down:
1. Jesus has power and authority over evil spirits
2. Jesus is a healer of many
- We see this throughout this Bible study that he heals many, we will also see it throughout other Bible studies, we saw it in our Bible studies in the book of John, and he still also heals people to this day,
- He doesn't only heal us from sickness and disease, but also from our sins.
3. Jesus came to save the world and forgive all who believes in him of their sins
Luke Ch 4 Part 3 Study Guide
Why did the evil spirit ask Jesus if he came to destroy them?
What does verse 35 show?
In verse 41, why did Jesus rebuke them and not allow them to speak?
Why was Jesus sent down to the earth?
What is your biggest takeaway from this Bible study?
So that concludes this Bible study on part 3 of chapter 4 of the Book of Luke. Tomorrow we're going to go into chapter 5 part 1, so make sure you stay tuned for that.
