First I want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person listening to this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our minds, and our hearts to you Lord. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we're reading, and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives Lord I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and they implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Luke Chapter 1 Part 2:

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,

40 where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women,

and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!"

46 And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God

my Savior, 48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me-- holy is his name. 50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. 51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant

Israel, remembering to be merciful 55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,

even as he said to our fathers."

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. In verse 41 where it says "the baby leaped in her womb" John (which was in Elizabeth's womb) knew that even in the womb Christ was near. Mary had come up to Elizabeth and John knew that Jesus Christ was in Mary's womb and he leaped for joy. In verses 42-45, Elizabeth spoke the words that the Holy Spirit gave her. It said in verse 41 that Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and then the words that she said after that in verses 42-45 were the words that the Holy Spirit gave her. In verses 46-56, Mary was so grateful to God for giving her Jesus that she worshiped him with song.

57 When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. 58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.

59 On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, 60 but his mother spoke up and said, "No! He is to be called John."

61 They said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who has that name."

62 Then they made signs to his father to find out what he would like to name the child. 63 He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, "His name is John." 64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak, praising God. 65 The neighbors were all filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about these things. 66 Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, "What then is this child going to be?" For the Lord's hand was with him.

67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: 68 "Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people. 69 He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David 70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), 71 salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us-- 72 to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, 73 the oath he swore to our father Abraham: 74 to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear 75 in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. 76 And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, 77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, 78 because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven 79 to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace."

80 And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the desert until he appeared publicly to Israel."

Alright, so those are all the verses of part 2 of chapter 1 of the book of John, but I'm going to discuss all of these verses with you guys here. So in verse 60 where Elizabeth spoke up and said "his name was going to be John," John is what Gabriel told Zechariah to name their son. Zechariah couldn't speak, so it doesn't say that Zechariah ever told this to Elizabeth, It seems here that she was speaking from the Holy Spirit because she was filled with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit gave her that name of John. Then in verse 64, right after Zechariah wrote on the tablet that his name is John, he immediately was able to speak. And that's what Gabriel told him, that after everything that Gabriel said would happen did happen, then he would be able to speak again. And that was once John was born and once Zechariah confirmed that his name would be John. As soon as Zechariah was able to speak he started praising God. He was so grateful to God for being able to speak again and for him blessing them with John. In verse 66, everyone was curious about what John would be because they knew that the Lord's hand was with him.

In verse 69 where it says "he raised up a horn of salvation, the horn here symbolizes strength." In verse 72 it says "to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham." I'm just going to go into Genesis chapter 22 verses 15-18 and read those with you guys here: 15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, "I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me." If you want to go in and read all of chapter 22 of the book of Genesis I highly recommend it, because it goes into how Abraham was tested, how he stayed faithful and obedient to the Lord, and this is why the Lord made that oath to him. Also in Genesis chapter 17 is the covenant of circumcision, which if you want to go read that and check that out you can do that also, but that's also a covenant that the Lord made with Abraham.

In verse 76 where it says "you will go before the Lord to prepare the way for him,"

we're going to see more on this in Luke chapter 3 of how John the baptist prepares the way for the Lord. It also goes over it in Matthew chapter 3, Mark chapter 1, and John chapter 1. If you followed along with our Bible studies in the book of John, we went over that in John chapter 1. Zechariah knew that his son John was going to be a prophet and he was going to prepare the way for Jesus Christ.

Then in verse 79, I want to point out a couple of things here because it says to "shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death and to guide our feet in the path of peace." Jesus Christ is the light of the world and he shines his light on those living in darkness. Some people come to the light and they ask Jesus to come into their hearts and they have eternal life and they become the salt and light of the world, and others stay in darkness and they hate the light and they're afraid that their evil deeds are going to be exposed. Jesus Christ also gives us peace and he guides us into a path of peace if we follow him.

Here are 3 takeaways to write down:

3. God blesses those who stay faithful and obedient to him

- We see here that God blessed Mary, Elizabeth, and Zechariah and they all stayed faithful and obedient to the Lord.

- Elizabeth was blessed with giving birth to John the Baptist, the prophet that was going to prepare the way for the Lord Jesus Christ. Zechariah was blessed with being John's father. Mary was blessed with being the mother of Jesus Christ

our Savior.

2. God lifts up the humble

- Mary said this in her song to the Lord. In verse 52 she said, "He has brought down the rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble."

- Whenever we humble ourselves, we stay faithful and obedient to the Lord, and we humble ourselves under God's mighty hand, he will lift us up, he will bless us, give us strength, and everything that we need to fulfill the calling that he's placed on our heart and to be fully submitted to his will.

3. God keeps his promises to us

- God made a covenant with Abraham, he swore an oath to him, and he kept good on that promise.

- When God tells us that he's going to do something, he's always going to come through and he's always going to keep his promises to us.

- It is our duty to make sure that we're staying faithful and obedient to the Lord, following him, obeying his commands, and staying fully submitted to the will of God the Father and he will always come through for us.
