I did want to say a quick prayer... Lord, I pray that you lift up every single person reading this right now. Please open up our eyes, our ears, our minds, and our hearts to you Lord. Please give us knowledge and understanding to know exactly what it is that we're reading and the wisdom to implement it in our daily lives. Lord, I pray that whatever it is that each person is supposed to receive from this Bible study, they receive it and implement it in their daily lives. I love you with every ounce of my being. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Luke Chapter 12 Part 2:
35 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. 39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. In verses 35-36, we have to focus on Jesus and his return. After his crucifixion and resurrection, he ascends to heaven and he will return for his people. So we have to focus on following Jesus, obeying his commands, letting the Holy Spirit guide us, and waiting for the return of Jesus. In verses 37-39, our reward is in heaven and we have to be ready for Jesus at all times and let the Holy Spirit guide us. In verse 40, no one knows when the Son of Man, who is Jesus Christ, will come back so we have to stay ready at all times.
41 Peter asked, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?”
42 The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But suppose the servant says to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. In verse 41, Jesus was speaking to anyone who will live their life in readiness and be faithful and wise stewards. In verse 45, this person that says their master is taking a long time to come loses faith and is not ready for when Jesus returns. So they give in to the sinful nature and do wicked things, and then when Jesus comes back that person will be caught doing evil and wicked things and they will be going with other unbelievers.
In verses 47-48, when we know the will of God and we don't submit to it or we don't implement the teachings of Jesus then we will be punished. If a person doesn't know the will of God and they do things that deserve punishment then their punishment won't be as bad as the one that knows better. It's our responsibility as believers of Jesus Christ to spread the gospel and let others know about Jesus, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and the truth of God's words so that they will know the will of God, be able to submit to it, possibly be saved by Christ, have a relationship with him, and seek to live and have a heart like him. We have a greater responsibility when we are given more knowledge and understanding.

49 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Alright, so I'm going to stop right there and discuss these verses with you guys here. So what Jesus says in verse 49, that he has come to bring fire on the earth, this fire could be a few different things. So one thing is the judgment to come on the Jewish people. The other is the power of the Holy Spirit that is within us after Jesus has completed his work. We know that Jesus was on a mission to save lives. Once he was crucified, resurrected, and ascended back to heaven then the Holy Spirit was sent down from God the Father. Whoever believes in Jesus Christ and asks him to come into their hearts receives the Holy Spirit. Also, the fire on the earth is the spread of the gospel after Jesus ascends to heaven. If you kept up with our Bible studies from the book of Acts we see where Jesus' apostles, disciples, and other believers go and spread the gospel after Jesus ascends to heaven. What Jesus says in verse 50, he knew the good that would come once his work was completed.
In verses 51-53, whenever we faithfully follow Jesus then there will be division. There will be people that aren't going to believe in Jesus, but we have to make sure that we stand firm in our faith, we don't worry about what other people think or what they believe, but we have to stand firm in our beliefs and know that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Some people may not agree with us and even our own family members may not believe what we believe and we could be divided against each other, but we have to stand firm in our faith and our belief in Jesus Christ and let other people know about Jesus and how he's changed our lives and our hearts.
54 He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. 55 And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. 56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?
57 “Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right? 58 As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled to him on the way, or he may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. 59 I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”
Alright, so those are all of the verses of part 2 of chapter 12 of the book of Luke, but I'm going to discuss these verses with you guys here. In verses 54-56, Jesus rebuked them because they didn't discern the time. They should've understood more about the prophecies about Jesus coming and appreciate the signs that this was the time when the Messiah was to come and save the world, be crucified, resurrected, ascended back to heaven, and all these things. They knew more about the appearance of the earth and the sky than the time they were in. Jesus didn't only say this to his disciples, he wanted everyone to discern the time and be ready for his return. In verses 57-59, we have to judge what is right and discern the truth so we can get right, do the things that God intends for us to, follow him, and obey his commands before Jesus comes and the throne of judgment comes.
Here are 3 takeaways to write down:
1. We have to focus on Jesus and his return
2. We have to submit to the will of God the Father
3. Jesus is the Messiah and he will come back for his people in God's perfect timing
